Developing a single integrated reporting solution

Albemarle is a leading global entity, specialising in specialty chemical manufacturing and pioneering the development of lithium industry. In 2023, Albemarle announced its plans to expand its lithium processing plant in Kemerton, Western Australia from two processing trains to four processing trains, turning it into one of the world’s largest lithium processing facility outside China.

Our role

To aid its large-scale expansion and streamline operations, MBB was engaged by Albemarle to design and implement a comprehensive project controls system that consolidated Albemarle’s various reporting tools into a single integrated solution.

The system, designed and delivered by MBB, seamlessly unifies data from Primavera, Facilex, CMS and SAP, delivering critical insight into schedule management, cost planning, resource management, contract management, health and safety reporting and more.

Initially deployed on Albemarle’s A$2 billion Kemerton Expansion Project, the system was later adopted internationally, enhancing project oversight and support across their global operations.

• Developed a comprehensive reporting system tailored to capture and consolidate critical project data and providing real-time, integrated insights across critical project domains
• Provided seamless systems integration with Albemarle’s existing project controls and business systems to ensure cohesive data flow and real-time insights
• Enabled detailed reporting across multiple domains including schedule, cost, contractor manning, contracts and procurement, HSE, and accommodation to support comprehensive project oversight
• Supported the scalable deployment of the platform, successfully rolling out the system on a $2billion mine expansion project, demonstrating the solution’s robustness and adaptability, which subsequently led to its adoption on an international scale
• Provided enhanced decision support through actionable, data-driven insights that empowered Albemarle to proactively manage project risks and optimize performance across its global operations
• Successfully designed and implemented Kemerton Compass – a comprehensive Project Controls reporting system – on the Kemerton expansion project, providing real-time, integrated insights across critical project domains
• The provision of a Project Controls Cost Management Lead to oversee the development of the above and also to ensure the source data was managed and maintained.
