Gympie Road Bypass Tunnel (QLD)

Helping make travel around North Brisbane easier

Gympie Road is the backbone of North Brisbane’s local traffic network and is a major arterial road linking Brisbane with Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast, making it one of Queensland’s busiest, most congested roads. Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) is working with Government to develop a business case for a Gympie Road Bypass Tunnel (GRB). GRB is a proposed 7.1km tolled road tunnel from Kedron to Carseldine in North Brisbane. It is envisaged that GRB will be developed, delivered, financed, operated and maintained by a special purpose vehicle (North Brisbane Infrastructure (NBI)), which will be managed by QIC with investment and oversight from Government.

NBI’s initial Investment Proposal to the State Government for GRB was approved, subject to a future Detailed Business Case (DBC). The Project is currently being further progressed by NBI to facilitate this DBC, with significant technical, traffic modelling, environmental and commercial workstreams underway.
