NSW Hunter and Illawarra Decarbonisation Roadmap (NSW)

Identifying better ways to commercialise emissions reduction

The NSW Government is supporting the development of industrial decarbonisation plans for the Hunter and Illawarra. These plans are being developed to foster collaboration and co-investment in shared low carbon infrastructure and technologies which will help fast-track emissions reduction and help NSW reach net zero by 2050.

The Go2Clean consortium is playing a key role in this ambitious project.

The consortium has been appointed to deliver decarbonisation planning for this project. Go2Clean is led by ERM, the largest global pure play sustainability consultancy, and includes Arup, HoustonKemp and MBB Group.

Combining their extensive experience across a range of industries, the consortium is collaborating with a wide range of industrial and other regional stakeholders to ensure significant local input, knowledge and expertise is included in this project.

This engagement will also help inform the NSW Government about opportunities and priorities for investment in enabling infrastructure.

Our role

MBB Group is helping identify better ways to help ensure the commercial success of the project. This includes:

  • Identifying key enabling technologies and infrastructure to decarbonise industry in the Hunter and Illawarra Regions
  • Prioritising investment in enabling infrastructure in the Hunter and Illawarra Regions to assist industry in its decarbonisation efforts
  • Identifying commercial and financial structures for investment in enabling infrastructure and key interventions government can make to promote development of enabling infrastructure
  • Identifying key challenges and interventions government can make to ensure a ‘just transition’ for local workforces from legacy industries such as coal fired power stations to new low carbon industries

The work has involved significant stakeholder engagement across major industrial players in the Hunter and Illawarra regions as well as across government.
