Developing a single integrated reporting solution

Powerlink is a leading provider of high voltage electricity transmission network services, delivering electricity to more than five million Queenslanders. They maintain a network which extends from Cairns to the New South Wales border.

The central Queensland and Southern Queensland portfolios include network reinforcement, strengthening and connection to Renewable Energy Zones (REZ). The projects involve construction of 275kV transmission lines and substations comprising hundreds of kilometres of transmission lines, upgrade of existing substations, construction of new substations and the construction of two synchronous condensers.

Our role

MBB specialists were initially brought into the project to assist with project planning and have been engaged for additional scope to support cost control and risk management.

Our services

Through the engagement, MBB has:

• Prepared processes and procedures to support the implementation of the Major Project Office framework, including project management plans, risk management plans and project controls plans
• Developed schedules for Gladstone reinforcement project, stages 1,2 and 3, and the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP) stages 1 and 2
• Consolidated and improved project risk registers
• Developed cashflow and s-curve processes and work tools
• Aligned estimating and cost breakdown structures
• Identified key gaps in processes and procedures early, helping ensure document development can progress in parallel with priority tasks
• Delivered risk management processes needed to identify and capture key risks and develop appropriate controls, with realistic qualification and quantification of residual risk outcomes
• Identified stakeholders and developed relationships with them to improve interfaces
• Worked with teams across the business to break down siloes and integrate scope, schedule and cost practices across work groups
• Developed plans that incorporate scope and interfaces from all stakeholders.
