Helping preserve Sydney’s cultural and creative history
In 2018 the State Government announced it was to relocate the MAAS Powerhouse Museum to Parramatta in Western Sydney. Following the announcement, the Government committed to investigating the retention of a creative industries precinct in Ultimo – a Final Business Case for a Creative Industries Precinct at Ultimo would be prepared in response to the demand for retention of a cultural and heritage presence at the Ultimo site.
The Ultimo Creative Industries Precinct is proposed to re-create an engaging and dynamic cultural hub: uniting existing creative industries; and enhancing the connectivity of workspaces and institutions in the area. There is also consideration of a Broadway-style theatre and a museum showcasing part of MAAS’s design and fashion collection.
